Taking a break

Thanks to tremendous support from Region VI Director Lori Balkum and other chess parents, the Austin Kids Chess Club has organized 31 rated tournaments in the last 31 months.  Progress of young Austin chess players (measured by interest in serious chess, rating improvements, and achievements in state/national/international tournaments) and appreciation by their parents have been the constant source of energy to keep the club running.

Negatively affected by a few recent non-sense incidents, I became tired and  I need to take a break at least through this summer.  Hopefully, I will regain the energy and resume activities in the near future.  I will still organize small tournaments similar to Austin Kids #29+.  If a parent or a chess coach takes over, I will be glad to help organize regular Austin Kids tournaments.  Young chess players can still go to the Rocks and Rooks Chess Club's great scholastic chess tournaments and the Checkmate Kids Chess Club's events at the Laura Bush library.

Nam Nguyen
